Challenge
McPhillips has a long and illustrious history as a successful business deeply embedded in its community. It is a major employer of almost 250 staff with a commitment to training and developing its people and to delivering quality for it's clients.
In 2025 it launched the first community fund in the county in partnership with Shropshire Community Foundation, supporting good causes across the county. McPhillips is rare in its sector for directly employing so much of its workforce, many of whom has been there for decades.
The directors were keen to have their staff and their efforts recognised in the Shropshire business community and one way of doing this is to enter, and win, in the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce annual Business Awards.
However, despite their previous efforts, McPhillips had failed to secure the Company of the Year title at previous attempts and were extremely keen to give themselves the very best shot of being recognised for their undoubted qualities.
Solution
Be Bold Media has an enviable track record in supporting clients with award entries, be they local, national or international.
It became clear to our experienced team that McPhillips' inability to secure this title was not caused necessarily by not being worthy of it, but due to not presenting itself in a way that helped the judges to easily understand its real strengths and capabilities, as well as the efforts to which the company goes to do the right thing by it's people, it's clients and the communities it works in.
The Be Bold team, headed by managing director, Amy Bould, devised a comprehensive plan to surface all of McPhillips' best qualities and present them in a compelling way to the those creating the judging shortlist and, once successfully on that list, to the judges who would be visiting each of the finalists before making their Company of the Year decision.
This plan was executed hand-in-hand with a wider campaign to earn McPhillips the kind of profile it deserved but had so far struggles to cut through with in the wider business community.
Results
At the first time of trying with Be Bold Media support, McPhillips was named the Shropshire Company of the Year at a glittering ceremony held at Telford's International Centre, the summer of 2025.
The win brings the benefits not only of wider recognition of a worthy major business, but a huge boost to the hard working teams across all departments at McPhillips who could bask in the pride of being known for their excellence.
Feedback from peers in the wider Shropshire business community has been tremendous and the feel-good effect and business development opportunities are the cherry on top of being Company of the Year - something McPhillips will forever be able to say it achieved.
